Leopards Of Jawai

Leopards Of Jawai

This image and several in the series have been featured on BBC Earth – UK, Spain, Portugal, Marathi, Gujarati & Persia

Sena, Jawai

Jawai is an ideal place for nature lovers. Secluded in the wilderness, and surrounded by grey granite stone hills, this destination has become extremely famous in the past decade or so.

Besides the natural beauty, the main attraction are the leopards that live in and around these granite quarries. The peaceful co-existence between man and leopards, like Gir lion, can be fully experienced at this destination.

The close proximity of an apex predator has its own challenges. Jawai is a place where leopards are living for quite sometime and hunt animals that are smaller in size. They avoid human contact and do not attack the livestock when they are roaming under human surveillance. They definitely look for an opportunity to nab a laggard in the herd but that happens only when it is out of the sight of the herdsman.

Brother in Arms – Still togethar !

Jawai has almost been like a second home for me to watch Leopards up close and personal. This short clip is an example of why my love for wildlife photography has become an intense passion. The excitement and the adrenaline rush that one gets after not sighting any is unimaginable and inexplicable in words.

The video is of 2 young male brothers born to a female leopard in the Jeevdaa area of Sena, Jawai.

These cubs have grown into fine young adults now and seeking out their own space within the existing habitat. They are bold & beautiful ready to pose for the camera at every given chance.

The gallery below has quite a few images made while they were growing up.
