Desert National Park

Desert National Park is situated in the Indian state of Rajasthan, near the town of Jaisalmer & Barmer. The park is one of the largest national park at 3162 sq.km, providing an excellent ecosystem of the Thar Desert. Sand Dunes form around 20% of the park.

The park is haven for migratory and resident birds of the desert. The endangered Great Indian Bustard is resident to the park and are found in fair numbers, though they are critically endangered due to loss of habitat and excessive hunting for their meat.

The park also has a collection of fossils of animals and plants which is 180 million years old. Some fossils of dinosaurs which are 60 million years old have been found in the area.
